Terms of Use & Privacy / Cookie Notice

Summary (not a substitute for the terms below): the m-cdn Quality Inspector ("the Tool") is a free, browser-based diagnostic that plays a public video stream URL you provide and measures how it is delivered to you. It is provided "as is", for informational purposes only. We do not guarantee accuracy and accept no liability for decisions you make based on it.

1. What the Tool does

The Tool runs entirely in your browser. You supply a stream (HLS) URL; the Tool plays it and records delivery measurements (startup time, rebuffering, bitrate, the serving CDN, segment timing, manifest contents, and your network "vantage" — approximate location/ISP derived from your public IP via third-party lookup services).

2. Acceptable use

  • Only test streams you own or are authorised to test. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to access and analyse the URL you enter.
  • Do not use the Tool to infringe any third party's rights, breach any content licence or terms, or for any unlawful purpose.
  • Do not attempt to overload, reverse-engineer, or disrupt the Tool or the collection service.

3. Data we collect & why

By default the Tool keeps results in your browser and lets you download them. If you choose to share a result, submit feedback, or have collection enabled, the following may be sent to us: the measurement report (including the stream URL, the serving CDN, the approximate vantage location/ISP and your public IP as carried in the report), and any feedback, rating, or email address you voluntarily provide. We use this to operate and improve the Tool, understand multi-CDN delivery, and — where you provided contact details — to follow up about our products. We do not sell your personal data.

4. Cookies & local storage

The Tool uses your browser's local storage (and/or cookies) strictly to remember that you accepted this notice and to keep your in-progress results so a refresh doesn't lose them. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Third-party IP-geolocation providers we call to determine your vantage have their own policies.

5. Third-party services

The Tool loads the open-source hls.js player and calls third-party IP-intelligence providers to estimate your vantage. The stream you enter is fetched from its own CDN/origin under that provider's terms. We are not responsible for third-party content or services.

6. No warranty

The Tool and all measurements are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Browser-based measurement has inherent limitations (e.g. cross-origin restrictions) and results are indicative, not authoritative.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Tool or its results.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW / JURISDICTION], and the courts of [VENUE] have exclusive jurisdiction.

NOTE (internal): the [bracketed] fields above are placeholders. They must be filled and the document reviewed by counsel before public launch.
